Your efforts are required: a group of conspirators have set themselves the goal of hypnotizing the entire city! To prevent this, you visit an old music school in Cologne and have to get a mysterious machine to work. However, it is well hidden – because it is a very powerful instrument and can cause great damage in the wrong hands. But in the right hands, it can save the whole city!

We offer one of our escape rooms in a version for families and children’s groups (e.g. birthdays). Although it is the same room that adults can book and play, the puzzles are adapted to the age group.
Escape rooms are often not explicitly designed for children, which is why they often need a lot of help. We at Spybrain have therefore developed a game that can be adapted to the target group. So even the little ones don’t miss out on the fun. If they only play with one or a maximum of two accompanying adults, the children should be between 11 and 14 years old. For families or parents who come with children, age is less important – because helping hands with searching and discovering are helpful in every exit room. Nevertheless, we recommend that you observe the minimum age.

In this way, everyone can actively contribute to the success of the game.
Our escape games are the perfect leisure activity, especially for holidays or birthdays – and the best thing about it: it’s a team game. This is particularly advantageous for children’s groups, as it is not a competition and therefore there are no losers.

Why an escape room for children and families?
Children think and behave differently from adults. A few adjustments are necessary so that they can have just as much fun in a game that was originally designed for adults.
So what makes this room suitable for families? Thanks to our experience, we know which tasks children need help with and where they are superior to adults. Thanks to our concept, we can adapt the most difficult puzzles in the room to the age level of the participating children. After all, everyone should have a sense of achievement and fun. For example, we incorporate small playing aids that enable the little adventurers to solve the puzzles with their childlike creativity and curiosity.
There is also plenty to search for and find in the “magical music machine” room. Due to its unusual size for an escape room, every child can discover and contribute something, even in large groups. This is further enhanced by the friendly atmosphere with natural light.
From what age can we play the Escape Room?
Which version should we book?
As you can see, we offer our adapted escape room for children aged 11 and over. Because you can choose between two age groups when booking (11-12 years and 13-14 years), we can prepare the game optimally. For mixed groups, please choose according to the majority of children and possibly leave a comment regarding the age of the children.
But there are also options for younger children aged 9-10. Children under the age of 11 can play in groups with several adults (or older children) and contribute a lot to the team experience. When visiting together with family or older siblings, we recommend a minimum age of 9 years. But only, when the group is large enough and there are enough older players. We can NOT adapt the game for a children-only group of 9 or 10 years of age, For these groups minimum age is 11 years.

(minimum) age
One child is much younger than 11. Can he/she join anyway?
A younger sibling wants to join, even when younger than 11 years. Generally speaking, this is possible, because the game is not scary for example. The important thing is, that the rest of the group is within the age range (11 years or older), or that there are relatives with them (parents, older siblings). Nonetheless, younger than 9 years is probably too young.
This way everybody, including the youngest ones, can have fun in the game. If in doubt, we would also be pleased if you let us know the age constellation of the children in advance when booking.
All kids are 9 or 10 years old. Can we visit?
No, these children are usually too young for the game – even if they are already very advanced for their age!
The children’s version of the game also places certain demands on how a group of children can coordinate themselves. In our experience, this point is reached with the change to secondary school (5th grade in Germany). The game can be overwhelming for younger children – that would be the opposite of what we want to achieve.
Important:
From time to time, groups present us with a “fait accompli” and celebrate their 10th birthday with us (i.e. children are 9-10). Do your children a favor and wait at least until their eleventh birthday.

Are we allowed to take sweets/drinks into the room?
No – our room has technical components and the next group usually arrives straight after you, expecting a clean room just like you. But you won’t get to eat anyway!

Is there a lounge for a party?
No, unfortunately we don’t have anything like that. Instead, we have tried to design large and pleasant game rooms.
Number of persons and accompaniment
Do the children need adult supervision during play?
Especially for groups with younger children (11-12), it is a good idea to be accompanied by an adult during the game. Both to support the children and so that our staff can concentrate primarily on game supervision. Everyone benefits!
In the course of supervising numerous children’s groups, it has become clear that a trusted person can guide the group in a meaningful way and mediate any conflicts that arise. The good thing is that you too can take part in the puzzle fun!
Is the number of people flexible?
The rates for families and children’s birthday parties are all-inclusive prices that apply per group (depending on group size). So if the group size changes at short notice, this is not a problem. Unfortunately, we cannot allow more than 8 children plus a supervisor in one game.
How many accompanying persons are allowed in the room?
We offer packages for groups accompanied by 0-2 adults. Please note, however, that the number of participants must not exceed 9 people. If you have a different constellation, we would be happy to hear from you.
Can more than 8 children play?
Very often there are more friends who should all come along. But our rooms have physical limits beyond which they are too full. The game also slowly stops working. Therefore, the upper limit of 8 children applies.
Miscellaneous
What should I bear in mind when visiting Spybrain?
Please do not arrive earlier than the agreed time! If possible, please arrive at the exact time stated on your booking confirmation. We don’t have a separate lounge room, and there are often other groups in the building before and at the same time.

Can "The Traveler" also be played by children and families?
No, unfortunately not. The Traveler is a completely different and challenging game that places completely different expectations on players. After our assessment and consultation with many visitors, we think that this game is not engaging for children on the one hand, and on the other hand it is too demanding and therefore not fun. The minimum age for the traveler is 16 years.
Special challenges/fears
On our website you will find information on pretty much everything that could cause anxiety in the game. All in all, this is quite a small amount, as all rooms have light switches and/or daylight. If there is something really unusual that scares your children, please just drop us a short message!
